TOURNAMENT RULES

Game formats:

  • Round Robin format

  • All Divisions – Two 20 minutes halves, running clock

  • 3rd-6th Grade & Girls Divisions - Play with 28.5 size ball

  • 7th-Varsity Boys Divisions - Play with regulation size ball


Game rules: All NYS High School rules are in effect at all levels with the following exceptions:

  • A player must have played in a minimum of 50% of the tournament games to be eligible to play in a championship game

  • Home team is responsible for the official score book. Visiting team to provide score clock keeper.

  • Running clock. Stop time is in effect in the last 2 minutes of each half unless one team is ahead of the other by 20 points or more, then the clock continues to run. If the point differential falls below 15 points, then the clock will stop again.

  • All defensive schemes are allowed for all age divisions except for below:

    • 3rd-4th Grade: Man-to-Man defense only.

    • Press allowed the last 2 minutes of each half and overtime.

    • 5th-6th Grade: All defense allowed except if a time is up 20 or more.

    • No Zone defense is allowed until the point differential falls under 15 points.

  • No press is allowed if the point differential is 20 or more points.

  • Press will be in effect once the point differential falls below 15 points.

  • Pre-game warm ups and Half-time will be limited to 3 minutes, unless modified by a tourney official.

  • Each team is awarded 3 full time-outs per game.

  • A player receiving 6 fouls in a game will be disqualified for the remainder of the game.

  • 1 & 1 after 7 team fouls. Double bonus after 10 team fouls.

  • Overtime period is 2 minutes with stop-time.

  • Each team is awarded a 30 second time-out in the 1st overtime period.

  • 2nd over time period is sudden death.

  • Any player or team receiving a technical foul, the opposing team will shoot 2 free throws and will gain possession of the ball.

  • Any player or coach receiving 2 technical fouls will be disqualified for the balance of that game and tournament.

  • Games may start up to 15 minutes sooner than the scheduled start time, if the tournament is running ahead of schedule.

  • Teams are encouraged to report to their assigned court a minimum of 30 minutes prior to the scheduled start time.

  • Teams that fail to report to their assigned court by the scheduled time shall forfeit the game.

  • There will be no makeup games.


Tie-breaker system:

When determining seeding for the championship, a tie-breaker system will be followed:

  1. Head-to-head record

  2. Score differential. (All forfeits will be given a differential of 15 points.)

  3. Total Points Scored.

  4. Final determination will be a coin toss
